Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood – 23

Things keep getting interesting with this series. Episode 23 keeps up the action with some really good action scenes in the first half, and a heart-filled, story based second half. For me, this was another very enjoyable episode, I really can’t wait to see what happens next.
As Gluttony and Bradley are chasing after Lin and Lan Fan, while Alphonse is continuing the fight with Scar. Ran Fan is seriously injured and in order to throw off Bradley she removes her arm and ties it to a dog. This actually works quite well, allowing both her and Lin to escape. Gluttony attacks Scar, and then Lin shows up. Some of his fighting skills are revealed, and it is surprising how strong he actually is. His character is shrouded in a mystery, he definitely has some secrets behind him. Hawkeye shows up in a car and takes Lin and Gluttony (who is tied up) with her. Eventually Scar is saved by the young girl from a few episodes back with the panda-like creature. While saving him, she displays some impressive alchemy skills. That pretty much sums up the action of the episode.

Following this is a more character and story driven segment involving Winry, and her finally how she feels for Ed.
The episode ends at Mustang’s secret hide out where a doctor saves the badly damaged Lan Fan, and it is revealed to Mustang, Al, and Ed that Bradley may just be a homunculus.

The ending really surprised me, the moment the name Roy Mustang is mentioned, Gluttony associates it with Lust’s death. I thought it was going to take a nice solemn ending to the episode involving the some chatter, but then Gluttony freaks out. I mean what the hell was that eye? Cliffhangers keep you wanting more, but I want to know now! I guess I will just have to wait a few days due to my falling behind.

My only complaint of this episode would have to be the lack of detail and attention shown with the town and minor characters. The character desgin and animation just looks sloppy at some points, with the amount of money in this series I really think it should be high quality in all aspects. An enjoyable episode as have been the past few, if you haven’t started watching this show yet, I would right now. I don’t see what there isn’t to enjoy.

this was a great review, i havent been watching the brotherhood series, but i definitely liked the manga story line a lot better then the anime story, so keeping up with the episodes with you is helpful. thanks for all the pictures, that really helps too! do you know how many episodes are in this series?

No, it hasn’t been determined yet actually. I’d imagine they will continue it until the manga finishes. I just hope we don’t see any filler episodes/arcs.
